Uncover the Magic in Secrets of Strixhaven!
Class is officially back in session. Magic: The Gathering’s Secrets of Strixhaven returns players to the elite magical university of Arcavios, where the five rival, dual-colour colleges compete for ultimate mastery. Including the highly anticipated return of the stunning Mystical Archive bonus sheet in every single pack!
This set is heavily focused on spellcasting, modular cards, and college synergies, introducing an exceptional lineup of brand-new and unique mechanics:
-
Prepare: These cards feature a creature on the left and a "prepare spell" on the right side of the text box, similar to Adventures. Once your creature meets its unique in-play condition, it becomes prepared, allowing you to cast a copy of its attached spell.
- Paradigm: Appearing on a cycle of high-impact mythic rare sorceries, this mechanic exiles the spell upon resolution, allowing you to cast a completely free copy of it at the beginning of each of your subsequent turns.
College Mechanics: Harness the unique personality of your school. Each of the five wizarding colleges features its own signature keyword ability word:
- Silverquill (Repartee): Triggers whenever you cast an instant or sorcery that targets a creature, punishing your foes or boosting your team.
- Prismari (Opus): Triggers when you cast instant or sorcery spells, granting massive bonus effects if you spent five or more mana on them.
- Witherbloom (Infusion): Gives your cards dangerous, stackable perks that scale if you have successfully gained life during the turn.
- Lorehold (Flashback): The legendary graveyard mechanic returns, letting you recast instant and sorcery cards straight from your discard pile.
- Quandrix (Increment): Rewards big-brained math plays by placing +1/+1 counters on your wizards whenever you pay an amount of mana higher than their power or toughness to cast a spell.
Why I Love This Set: Going back to Strixhaven is a massive win, and this set takes everything that made the original magic school block fun and dials it up to eleven.
